About This Class
Welcome to PSC 2620: Woody Trees and Shrubs. This course is intended to make you familiar with the most common woody trees and shrubs that you will come in contact with in the horticultural industry, as well the plants that are most commonly used in landscape designs. In addition to learning about specific plants, you will also be learning about topics related to trees, shrubs and the horticultural industry in general.
What you should expect from this course is a lot of memorization. I wish that there was another way to approach the subject, but it is critical that you memorize the names and details of each plant and its cultivars. While this may seem a daunting task, take comfort in the knowledge that thousands of students who have come before you have been able to do it. My recommendation is just take each week at a time and find a system of memorization that works best for you. Ask others to quiz you and help you memorize the plants. Find them in the landscape and get a close look at them.
The design of this course is in flux, and I value your feedback on how I can make it better to improve your learning experience. Please contact me if you have any questions or comments. Have fun and good luck!
