Synopsis:
The Willet-Holthuysen House was built between 1685 and 1687 by Jacob Hop, the Mayor of Amsterdam and future Treasurer of the Dutch Republic. It is one of AmsterdamÕs grand houses from the Dutch Golden Age. The gardens behind the house are done in the 18th Century French style, with some decidedly Dutch design elements included. The house was donated to the city of Amsterdam at the end of the 19th-century and the home and garden was later restored and turned into a museum.
