Synopsis:

Topkapi Palace was the royal palace of the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire and is located next to the Hagia Sophia. Begun in approximately 1465, the palace remained a private residence of the royal family until the fall of the Ottoman Empire. The palace is divided into a series of courtyards, with entrance into each subsequent courtyard reserved for an ever-higher echelon of Ottoman society. Set overlooking the Bosphorus, the palace has one of the most spectacular setting of all royal palaces.
