Synopsis:

The Palácio de Queluz was the former Portuguese royal palace in the city of Queluz, on the outskirts of Lisbon. The Palácio de Queluz is one of the best example of the convergence of the Baroque with traditional Portuguese elements. The gardens were heavily influenced by the French Formal style, with the principle designer being the Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Robillion. However, the most noted feature of the garden is the tiled canal, which was used for waterside festivities by the court, an element incorporated into the design by Robillion's Dutch assistant.
