Synopsis:
Planning for the the New Orleans Botanical Garden began in 1930, and construction of the gardens began in in 1936 as part of the work undertaken by the Works Progress Administration. Once a popular destination in New Orleans, the gardens suffered through a period of neglect and decay for nearly four decades before being revived in the late 20th century. The gardens were damaged extensively during Hurricane Katrina, but have subsequently been restored. The garden features many conservatories, greenhouses, water features, and sculpture.
